The Joint Committee of the Whole on June 22 recommended the City Council approve write-offs totaling $36,612.25 in municipal court debt and $104,692.41 in ambulance-run debt.
A request from the City of Seymour Municipal Court Clerk asked the committee to write off $36,612.25 in court debt for defendants who lack paperwork documenting owed amounts or whose debts have been deemed uncollectable through the State of Wisconsin. Alderperson Krull moved to recommend council approve the court debt write-off; Alderperson Hurkman seconded and the motion carried.
Separately, the City Clerk requested writing off $104,692.41 in ambulance debt for patients who died before 2024. The committee was also notified that Certified Ambulance, the city's ambulance billing agency, will begin coordinating with a collections agency on other unpaid ambulance accounts. Alderperson Vander Heiden moved to recommend council approve the ambulance debt write-off; Alderperson Schaumberg seconded and the motion carried.
The minutes do not record a roll-call tally for either motion; both items were recorded as "motion carried" and will be forwarded to the City Council for final action. Combined, the two write-offs total $141,304.66 (computed as the sum of the two figures recorded in the minutes).
