Vice mayor reports mower damage to trees at The Preserve; contractor may face probation

Vice Mayor Marion Chateau-Flagg reported that six trees at The Preserve were damaged by a contractor’s mower and recommended protective measures and a probationary period for the contractor, the council recorded Jan. 9.
Vice Mayor Chateau-Flagg said photos show deep gashes and missing bark where Plantwell’s large mower cut too close to tree trunks. She proposed installing barriers around trees and placing the contractor on a three-month probationary period while the town and contractor address remediation. Mayor Russ Nidy and the vice mayor agreed to meet with Jared (identified in the minutes as a contractor representative) to discuss next steps.
No formal sanction or vote was taken at the Jan. 9 meeting. Council did not present a remediation plan or cost estimate during the session; any disciplinary action or contract change would require further council action.
