Construction update: Greyhound Performing Arts Center on track for interior completion before school starts

Cindy, the district construction presenter, told the Burlington School District Board on July 13 that construction at the Greyhound Performing Arts Center is moving forward and that interior work is on track to be finished before the school year begins.

"Those were installed this month, and now we're currently working on the concrete topping going up," Cindy said, referring to the hollow-core risers for auditorium seating. She reported that hollow metal doors were delivered and that burnished block is being sourced from Wisconsin; the team expects interior cleanup and finishing to be done before school starts.

Cindy said the project has generated several requests for information and a mix of change requests; two contractor change requests totaling roughly $44,000 were denied while the board approved eight other change requests totaling about $25,000, bringing the project’s reported change-request total to $67,000 to date.

Board members asked about the schedule and Cindy said a punch list is scheduled for Aug. 4, followed by roughly three weeks for final completion work. EIFS (a stucco-like exterior finish) work is scheduled to begin July 20 and, with the exception of one wall, can be accessed without entering the primary construction zone.

Staff also described coordination on exterior work including Link Drive construction and parking-striping questions related to a superintendent request to remove yellow bus striping. The board approved the monthly status report that included these items and asked staff to continue punch-list follow-up and closeout work.

The board did not record a roll-call tally; items were approved by voice vote.
