Casselberry approves first reading to allow minor vehicular services indoors

On Sept. 22 the Casselberry City Commission approved on first reading Ordinance 25-1624, which amends the city's Unified Land Development Regulations glossary to permit minor vehicular services — such as scratch and dent repair, spot painting and vinyl wraps — when performed indoors in designated zoning districts.
Chief Planner Antonia De Jesus said the change is intended to help local businesses expand services while protecting public health and safety by distinguishing minor cosmetic work from major auto-body repairs, which remain prohibited. "The proposed ordinance also stipulates that all such work is to occur indoors in an enclosed building," De Jesus said. Staff noted that in some districts the use would require conditional-use approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Commissioners asked whether a paint booth would be allowed; De Jesus said indoor paint booths are acceptable and the language was adjusted after staff research to require appropriate controls for hazardous materials. The commission moved and unanimously approved the ordinance on first reading.
The item will return for second reading and final adoption as required by ordinance procedures.
