Casselberry authorizes $200,000 FRDAP grant application for Sunnytown Park improvements

The Casselberry City Commission on Sept. 22 authorized staff to submit a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant application seeking up to $200,000 for Sunnytown Park improvements.
Recreation and Cultural Arts Manager Linda Moore described an updated conceptual plan that includes an ADA-accessible playground, a multipurpose field, picnic amenities, a nature-study rain garden and exercise stations. She told the commission that FRDAP grants are competitive, the maximum award is $200,000 and the award must be matched dollar-for-dollar by the city; "The maximum grant request is $200,000 — it must be matched dollar per dollar by the applicant for a total project cost of $400,000," Moore said.
Commissioners asked whether substituting a picnic area for a pavilion would affect scoring; Moore said it would not and that a simpler picnic area could still score points. Commissioners also discussed CRD/CRA funds as a potential source for match and noted wetland constraints that limit parking expansion at the site.
A motion to adopt Resolution 25-3543 to authorize the FRDAP application passed by voice vote. Staff noted that, if awarded, the city would have three years to complete the project and may need to cover any cost overages beyond the matched $400,000 total.
