Cesar Martinez of FDOT explained that the action integrates the corridor into the state highway system and thus makes it eligible for state funding in future TIP/STIP cycles; he noted FDOT’s funding priorities emphasize safety and system preservation. "For a project to continue, they need to be consistent from the TIP and the STIP," Martinez told commissioners, adding FDOT will pursue all appropriate funding sources and work with the county to leverage available funds.
The board approved the item and agreed to take a commemorative photograph with the new State Road 880 sign following the vote. Commissioners thanked FDOT staff and county staff for collaboration on the effort.
