Board approves most exam and CPE extension requests, denies a few

Several applicants received extensions for good cause or medical reasons. The board approved an exam-credit extension for John Kayone and a separate extension for Andrew McGibbon; McGibbon joined the meeting later to thank the board and said, “I recently passed FAR last Thursday.” The board approved a late-added application for Courtney Gillrin and approved CPE extensions for Evelyn Broderick and Roy K. Lee (medical reasons). Gopal Singh Hall’s request was clarified (a 2027/typo issue) and the board revised and approved an extension through Dec. 31, 2026.
Board members discussed precedent when applicants cited being ‘busy’ as the reason for an extension. After debate, George Lazo’s request (cited as being too busy) was denied; Stuart Clark’s similar request was also denied. The chair and other members noted that ‘busy’ has not historically been accepted as sufficient cause. Board members also noted the consequence for denial is that the applicant would have to complete the requirement by the earlier deadline and pay a late fee if needed (staff cited $315 if completed before Sept. 30 and $625 if completed by Dec. 31).
One application, Thomas Debrizzi Jr.’s, was approved pending receipt of supporting medical documentation; staff reported they had contacted the applicant and recommended approval once records arrive. The board also approved an application for Roger Bennett despite prior rude email correspondence; the chair characterized the behavior but said the diagnosis merited compassion. Near the end of the meeting staff added Cody Mousseau to the agenda and the board approved that request as well.
The board recorded motions and votes for each request and closed the agenda after public acknowledgment of Andrew McGibbon’s passing of FAR. The meeting adjourned without further public comment.
The board will reflect these extensions in its records and follow up where approvals were conditioned on documentation.
