The Administrative Committee authorized staff to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) disaster‑response reimbursement grant, up to $250,000, to cover county cleanup costs from the June 17 storm. Josh explained the program and said SCURP can administer the application for a fee (up to $5,000) so the county would not pay those administrative costs directly.
"So what this is is the ability for the county to apply for a grant to get reimbursed for our cleanup, hours and what it costs the county itself up to $250,000," Josh said, describing eligible activities such as debris removal, street clearance and temporary street repair. He added staff will calculate final hours and costs before submitting the grant application.
During public comment a resident described displaced tenants and limited housing options. Staff noted FEMA assistance requires a high uninsured‑loss threshold (discussed in the meeting as about $24,000,000 in uninsured loss countywide), so FEMA aid is unlikely; staff said low‑interest SBA loans may be available to individuals and businesses and that they will notify residents when application details are finalized. The committee approved moving forward with the CDBG application.
