Elizabeth City-Pasquotank board honors choir, science-fair winners and student achievements

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 23 recognized student performers, science-fair winners and staff across the district.
Superintendent Dr. Parker opened the recognitions and introduced Monica Williams and a small concert choir from Pasquotank County High School. Kimberly Whitehurst presented the 5th-grade District Science Fair results, saying 21 students presented projects; Grady Christian of Wiese Elementary took first place and advanced to the Northeast Regional Science Fair in Greenville on Feb. 15.
"The enthusiasm that was displayed by our students, teachers, and the parents made this event so worthwhile," Whitehurst said, and she thanked Pasquotank County 4-H and the Transportation Department for support that helped students attend and present.
Weeksville Elementary principal Jim Schiffbauer highlighted staff contributors — from speech facilitators and counselors to front-office personnel — and introduced a student-centered video that showcased classroom clubs, DLI programming and student projects. Early College representative Jennifer Lee noted community partners including the College of the Albemarle, the YMCA and a technology partnership with Apple that supports 1-to-1 MacBook instruction.
The board also heard a list of senior student achievements — including an Early College student earning a private pilot’s certification and others completing career-technical certifications — and received reminders of upcoming district events such as the spring musical (April 23–26 at Arts of the Albemarle) and the Coast Guard marathon on April 10.
The board recessed briefly after recognitions and then moved to public comment and regular business.
