District engineer reports stormwater system held but reached capacity after Tropical Storm Debbie; resident mold concern noted

District Engineer Charlie Krebs told the River Ridge Board that the MRI project to replace Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates is about 80% complete and that the CDD will monitor whether the new curbing style requires more frequent cleaning. He said parts of the community received almost 8 inches of rain in two or three days during Tropical Storm Debbie while the roads are designed for 5—2 inches of rain over 24 hours. Although the stormwater system reached its capacity, Mr. Krebs reported it flowed unobstructed.
A resident expressed concern that standing water after the storm was seeping through a slab and causing mold in their unit. Mr. Krebs said he did not believe the standing water was the cause because other units had not reported similar problems; Mr. Schultz requested the issue be added to the next agenda so Mr. Long can comment.
On related permit questions, Mr. Krebs said allowing fire trucks to draw water from neighborhood lakes would require approval from the South Florida Water Management District and could mobilize plant and fish life, so it is not a typical practice.
The Board asked staff to follow up on the asphalt patch schedule and to confirm whether any roadway or curb damage occurred during recent utility work in the Glen Eagles area.
