A Pleasantville resident reported repeated flooding at the intersection of Linden Street and West Pleasant Street during public comment on June 16, prompting the city to order an engineering review of local stormwater routing.
Scott Perkins of 615 Linden St. said the intersection flooded twice in one week, with water reaching near his garage and entering his basement, and that he does not recall the intersection flooding before the new development was added. Council Member Aaron Hurt noted the intersection is in a low-lying area within a 100-year floodplain and referenced similar flooding after heavy rainfall in 2008. Hurt said he would support further review if Perkins can provide data showing an increase in frequency or severity.
Public Works Director Shawn Breazeale told the council stormwater from the intersection currently flows to the city pond. Mayor Kody Jurgens said the SpringView developer was required to install infrastructure larger than minimum requirements and that he does not believe the SpringView stormwater system connects to Linden Street. Engineer Joey Whitehouse said he will review storm routing in the area and evaluate whether detention or other measures are needed.
What’s next: Whitehouse will examine storm routing and infrastructure in the Linden Street area and report back; the council requested Perkins provide any supporting data he can gather to document flooding frequency or severity.
