ECPPS board approves contracts, chiller repair and calendar fixes; raises driver's ed fee

At its April 27 meeting the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Board of Education approved multiple operational and procurement items grouped under new business and unfinished business.
Staff presented and the board approved an amendment expanding the scope of work for Hundley Stukes Educational Consultants LLC. The board also unanimously approved a quote of $77,346.95 to replace a failed chiller compressor at Pasquotank County High School; facilities staff said the chiller failed after a power outage on April 12 and that only one bid was received for the work.
The board also approved a revised early college calendar to correct previously entered duplicate dates and to add workdays required by contract obligations. Staff said the academic calendar remains aligned with the partner college’s schedule and that the changes were administrative in nature.
For operations and personnel, the board approved increasing EC teacher assistant positions from three to four through the end of the school year to cover resignations; three of those positions are covered with special state allotments and existing allotments in the budget.
On student services, staff recommended renewing the district's partnership with North Carolina Driving School and increasing the student fee from $45 to $65 effective Sept. 1, 2026. "Just maintaining everything that needs to happen, cost the fuel...it's the minimum amount of an increase that we can have," staff said in response to a question about the fee increase. The board approved the renewal and fee change unanimously.
All of the operational items above were approved by motions that carried by unanimous vote among members present.
