Director of Facilities (Mister Cashman) briefed the board on progress for the new middle‑school project and community outreach steps.
Cashman reported the district closed on a house on Conant Drive that will serve as the project field office and a meeting center for owner‑architect‑contractor (OAC) weekly meetings. He said letters went to 33 nearby homeowners about vibration monitoring and foundation inspection permissions; about 16 homeowners have responded consenting to interior foundation views.
Cashman said geotechnical testing showed liquefaction concerns for the site; the planned sequence over the next two to three weeks is to remove the surface layer and replace it with approximately three feet of structural fill, install settlement monitoring devices, and then proceed to footing and foundation work. He said monitoring will inform how many rammed aggregate piers are necessary to stabilize soils.
Construction documents (CDs) are at 60 percent and expected to reach 100 percent in late July to early August, at which point the project will go out to bid with an anticipated fall bid return and guaranteed maximum price established thereafter. Cashman said the district will replace the main water line through the property in July, coordinate traffic and staging to minimize disruption to schools, and consider construction‑camera monitoring and regular public updates via Concord TV and other channels. He also flagged a planned building‑committee meeting this week to review value engineering and traffic engineering input and said he expects a late‑June date proposal for a groundbreaking and school‑naming presentation to the public.
Board members asked about the number of homeowner responses, vibration monitoring, and sequencing to limit neighborhood impact. Cashman said the district will continue outreach to residents and invited board members to the building committee meeting where the traffic engineer will present.
