Selectmen approve event permits, multiple leases and committee appointments

The Vinalhaven Board of Selectmen voted unanimously on a slate of event permits, leases and appointments at its June 30 meeting.
The board approved a request from Wes Reed to use the flea market field and to close part of Atlantic Avenue from School Street to East Main Street on July 18 for Vintage Vinalhaven. The motion was made by Pam Alley, seconded by Brandon Osgood, and passed 5-0.
Selectmen approved a lease agreement with Earl Hamilton for the footbridge and authorized Town Manager Marjorie Stratton to sign on the town’s behalf; the motion passed unanimously. They likewise approved a lease with Charity Appell for the Old Fire Hall and a library parking area lease with Matt and Stephanie Crossman (the Crossmans requested the lease be reinstated in case they sell their house; the agreement had lapsed in 2018).
The board discussed that July 4 events had been intended to prioritize non-profits but noted an increasing number of for-profit vendors; they agreed the Celebration Committee should determine participant vendors. The Selectmen approved catering/special-event applications for Slipaway and VH Community Brewery by unanimous motion.
The board also reappointed incumbents who wished to continue serving on town boards and committees by general motion, appointed Brandon Osgood to the Parks Commission with a term ending June 2028, and appointed Jim Grumbach to the Waste Watchers Committee. All recorded motions in these matters carried 5-0.
The minutes record no dissenting votes or public opposition on these items; decisions were taken by unanimous vote during routine new-business actions.
