Residents raise sidewalk hazards, parking and nuisance complaints during Hueytown public comment

Dennis Whitlinger (121 Virginia Drive) said newly constructed sidewalks near the council building and along Fourth Avenue have about a five-inch drop-off from the roadway, creating a potential tripping hazard. He asked the council to note the issue for follow-up.
Larry Coachman (521 McPhearson Lane) thanked city departments for a nearly complete project that improved safety for children but said unknown vehicles have been double-parked in a small cul-de-sac, blocking emergency access. Coachman requested installation of "No Parking - Tow Away Zone" signage.
Georgia Gray Hampton (113 Gray Lane) asked about the YMCA-operated swimming pool and reported increased traffic and suspicious activity on the former school grounds; she requested increased police patrols on Gray Lane, Johnson Drive, Terry Street and Cherry Avenue and said tree limbs cut by city crews were left in the roadway. She also suggested planning activities for Juneteenth next year.
Bhuwan Bashell inquired about the status of a Liquor Outlet application related to consumable hemp products. Holly Garren (145 Midway Drive) reported dumped furniture at 114 Midway Drive and significant overgrowth at 143 Midway Drive and requested confidentiality in the complaint process. David Barr (1426 Rock Creek Road), representing Parker Towing & Recovery, asked about the city's towing bid process. Tammy Earnest (216 Hart Avenue) said overgrowth at 214 Hart Avenue remains on the nuisance-abatement list and reported a debris-filled backyard at 220 Hart Avenue causing pest concerns.
No formal council responses or immediate remedies were recorded in the meeting minutes for these public comments; several matters were already on the nuisance-abatement list and may be handled by Building & Zoning per the adopted resolutions.
