Division Chief Art Smith and Mayor Lietz presented a cost-benefit summary, telling the board there were no viable alternatives on the table and noting a roughly $10,000 increase in cost compared with 2025. Trustees and members of the public discussed increased traffic enforcement and whether county resources already covered valley patrols. Town Council Chris McAnany clarified that, under the contract, Mesa County would not be patrolling inside the town limits.
Trustee Winkleblack moved to approve the contract; Mayor Lietz seconded the motion. The motion passed with four votes in favor and one opposed. The roll call recorded Mayor Pro Tem Price as the lone No vote. The board did not record any amendment to the contract at the meeting.
The board approved the contract to continue law-enforcement services for calendar year 2026 and asked staff to monitor enforcement activity and return with any recommended adjustments to service levels or terms.
