Plainfield police to detain juveniles at ‘teen takeover’ events after recent fights, chief says

Chief Prewitt told the Plainfield Town Council on June 22 that recent "teen takeover" events at Splash Island and the Shops at Perry Crossing produced fights and intimidating behavior, and that the department will take a firmer enforcement stance at two upcoming events.
"We've taken a very proactive stance…we're going to enforce every applicable law possible in and around those facilities," Chief Prewitt said. He said town police coordinated with Judge Crane in Hendricks County and would seek juvenile detention for children who commit crimes at those events, describing the measure as intended to deter repeat incidents.
Council members expressed support. "You definitely get my support," Councilmember Angle said, and Mr. Kingseed and Mr. Bridget also praised the proactive approach. Town management said communications to the public will be coordinated through the communications department.
What happens next: Chief Prewitt said two more events were scheduled (one at Splash Island and one at the mall) and the department will enforce traffic and behavioral laws at those locations; staff will co‑ordinate public messaging.
