Director Mackenzie Grady updated the commission on the master-plan process and recent council direction. She said consultant WRT presented draft feedback from community engagement at the June 24 council meeting and that council instructed staff to remove pickleball courts, a stadium and stadium lights from consideration at Rancho Laguna Park due to community concerns.
"Madison Merrill, one of our consultants with WRT, presented a synopsis of the feedback gathered to date," Grady said, adding that council had removed specific items from consideration after public comment.
Nut graf: Commissioners were asked to attend a joint commission–council meeting on September 9 (consultant presentation at 6 p.m.) when draft master-plan recommendations will be discussed; staff plans to return a draft master plan to the commission in October and to council in November for consideration of a final plan.
Commissioners asked whether consultants had reached out to regional partners such as the East Bay Regional Park District and the John Muir Land Trust; Grady said East Bay Regional Park District participated in focus groups and staff invited John Muir Land Trust but it did not participate in initial outreach. Grady reminded commissioners that public comment remains open at each public meeting of the process.
Ending: The commission will hear the draft master plan on October 12 and the draft/possible final master plan is expected to go to council on November 18.
