Board approves lease to replace two jail transport vehicles

The Clay County Board of Commissioners approved a request from the sheriff on July 14 to replace two jail transport vehicles under a 60‑month lease through Enterprise Fleet Leasing and to authorize installation of prisoner transport partitions.
The sheriff told the board the 60‑month lease is the maximum term Enterprise will offer; the total 60‑month lease obligation for both vehicles was presented as approximately $98,352 and the partitions and related equipment were estimated at $4,994.42 through a local vendor. The sheriff said the transport units will not accrue as many miles as patrol units and the county will re‑evaluate options at lease end.
Commissioners asked about the internal service fund treatment and were told finance staff will adjust internal service contributions for leased versus purchased vehicles. The sheriff said the county will sell the two existing vehicles at the next auction.
Commissioner Eppinger moved to approve the replacement and authorize partition installation; Commissioner Bair seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
