Board approves posting to replace retiring auditor‑treasurer and sets PDQ at grade 28

Clay County Commissioners voted July 14 to post and refill the auditor‑treasurer position after Lori Johnson announced her retirement. Administration staff briefed the board on the hiring timeline and recommended a six‑week overlap for training to preserve institutional knowledge.
Steve (administration) said the position will be posted with a first review of applications in late August and interviews in mid‑September, aiming to provide overlap through the November election and budget processes. The county also presented a revised position description and recommended placing the position on grade 28 of the county pay grid. "Given the importance of the role and the institutional knowledge leaving us, we wanted to start this process early," Steve said.
Commissioner Campbell moved to post the position with overlap; Commissioner Bair seconded and the motion carried. Commissioner Campbell then moved to approve the PDQ and place the position at grade 28; the board seconded and carried that motion as well.
The hiring process will use county HR procedures with the full board participating in final interviews; staff said they will advertise using standard state and local channels unless the board directs a wider search.
