Commission denies variance at 5th & Main; nuisance properties and cleanup day discussed

Attorney Moore said removal or involuntary abatement of the structure would require action by the Code Enforcement Board or Fiscal Court; no time frame for removal was set at the meeting. Commissioner Jennifer Cartwright had deferred to Attorney Moore for details on the hearing held Nov. 21 before the board of adjustments.
Chief Jason Franks reported separate complaints about a property on Fourth Street involving garbage and yard overgrowth; he said documentation had begun for a Sunset Street property because of fence placement and that brush and debris on Orion Alley properties are now exposed rather than hidden. Chief Franks asked volunteers and staff to join a cleanup day scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9:00 a.m. to prepare for the parade.
