Smiths Grove approves security-system upgrades for City Hall and cemetery, tables mowing-contract decision

Commissioners voted 5-0 on Jan. 27 to approve security-system upgrades for Smiths Grove after Commissioner Patrick Young reported a failed hard drive in the cemetery chapel surveillance system.
Mayor David Stiffey moved to approve the City Hall upgrade at $1,312.97 and the cemetery upgrade at $534.60; Commissioner Bob Buehl seconded the motion and it passed 5-0. Commissioner Young had earlier reported that Quality Security Surveillance identified the hard-drive failure and recommended replacing and upgrading the system. The Mayor also said the City Hall security system needs an upgrade to support additional cameras.
The Commission approved payment of a $1,650 invoice from The Tree Co. for tree removal at City Hall by unanimous vote.
The Mayor reviewed four bids received for cemetery, City Hall and right-of-way mowing. Commissioners discussed bids and contractor experience and tabled a final decision pending further investigation of bidder qualifications and experience with cemetery mowing.
No contract award was recorded at the meeting; commissioners directed further review of bids before awarding mowing work.
