The sheriff said the county has $161,116.99 available and that a 60‑month Enterprise lease for two Chrysler Pacifica transport vans would cost $98,352, plus an estimated $4,994.42 to install prisoner transport partitions at a local vendor.
The sheriff explained that the transport vehicles accumulate fewer miles than patrol cars and that Enterprise only offers up to 60‑month leases; he said the county may reevaluate buy/lease options at lease end. Commissioner Campbell asked whether internal service fund contributions will change now that vehicles are leased rather than purchased. County staff (Steve) replied that Laurie Johnson (auditor/finance staff) evaluates those contributions and that adjustments have been made in other departments when purchase models changed to leasing.
Commissioner Bair asked about disposal of existing vehicles; the sheriff said the county will sell the other two vehicles at the next auction. Commissioner Ebinger moved to approve the lease and authorize partition installation; Commissioner Bair seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
