The Denison Convention & Visitors Bureau advisory board voted July 13 to establish an attractions committee under the Discover Denison initiative and appointed Cath Perkins as the board’s representative to chair the new group.
Staff described the committee as a regular convening of attractions partners — museum staff, hoteliers, entertainment venues and tourism partners — to share updates, coordinate promotions and jointly plan seasonal events. "Our different attractions partners can get together regularly and kinda talk about what's going on, struggles, exciting things, upcoming events," staff said when presenting the proposal.
Staff recommended starting meetings in fall 2026 (September or October) so partners could plan winter and holiday programming. The board discussed waiting to select a chair until the August meeting when more members might be present, but a motion to appoint Cath Perkins was made, seconded and approved during the July 13 meeting.
The committee is intended to meet monthly or quarterly as appropriate and will be chaired by the appointed board member; staff said they will provide agendas, committee emails and other administrative support. The new chair and staff will finalize member invitations and begin scheduling meetings ahead of the winter season.
