Archer Lodge council votes $1,500 to help 12U Archer Lodge team travel to Little League World Series

The Archer Lodge Town Council voted Monday to provide $1,500 to the Johnson County Little League (JCLL) 12U Archer Lodge softball team to help families with travel costs as the team prepares to play in the Little League World Series in Greenville.

Rodney Correa, introduced as the Johnson County Little League president, told the council the Archer Lodge team had an exceptional run in district and state play, entered the World Series unbeaten through its district tournaments and would open World Series play on Aug. 2 against a team from Canada. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for a 12 year old girl to get to play in the Little League World Series," Correa said, noting the team will stay in college dorms and that some families will travel back and forth to Greenville during the tournament week.

Correa said organizers estimate a total fundraising goal of roughly $6,500 (about $500 per family) to defray travel and lodging costs, but that exact outside commitments were still being confirmed. He also warned that access to grandstand seating is limited: the team receives a small allotment of passes and the event otherwise operates first‑come, first‑served.

Council members asked how the town would fund assistance and staff noted that any contribution likely would come from fund balance and require a budget amendment. Councilmember (unnamed in the transcript) moved to provide $1,500; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

Staff and league organizers said they will follow up with details and that the town will consider accounting steps for a formal budget amendment if needed. Correa thanked the council: "I appreciate that. We appreciate it," he said after the vote.
