Robert Bartis, who identified himself as a 50% owner of BRB TV (Bartis Russell Broadcasting TV), urged the Finance Committee to approve a one-year extension of the city's contract to operate public-access channel 6, saying the company "loves doing the job" and asking the board to "support the amendment" for the $175,000 extension.
Jeff Painter, the city's PEG manager, recommended BRB TV continue for the next year and noted this is the second year of a two-year extension previously discussed. The clerk read a communication from Amy Gerard, purchasing manager, proposing a one-year extension for operation and management of public-access channel 6 with BRB TV LLC in an amount not to exceed $175,000, funded from the PEG Access Channel Fund.
Alderman Klee moved to accept, place the communication on file, and approve the one-year extension. The committee conducted a roll-call vote and the motion passed. The extension uses PEG access channel funding as described in the purchasing communication.
The committee also accepted a late communication from a resident raising financial concerns about the future of PEG funding; the chair indicated it may be discussed in a later meeting. The committee's approval of the BRB TV extension was recorded by roll call and the motion carried.
