Oklahoma County trustees approved a recommendation to award a $140,520 contract to Impact Contractors for repairs to the Metro 1 parking garage, staff said. The board voted to accept the recommendation after staff presented a tabulation of bidders and a facilities briefing on traffic and parking impacts.
The recommendation came after staff listed the seven bidders and described the evaluation as based on bidder understanding of project requirements and ability to complete work per the plans. "Based upon final evaluation of the tabulation of bids received and recommendations from both parties, recommending award to the lowest and best bidder Impact Contractors," a staff member said.
Keith Monroe, who identified himself as facilities staff, told trustees "there's going to be pain and suffering when we begin this over there in Metro 1 because both entrances to Metro 1 will need to be closed." Monroe said work would begin on the ramp into Metro 1 and that the basement level and monthly contract holders would be inconvenienced as well.
Monroe described the construction approach as pouring segments in place and testing each completed segment to ensure it met the design team's expectations. He outlined a 60-day timeframe for the work but said engineers and contractors suggested it could be completed in about half that time if conditions go well.
Monroe estimated lost cash parking revenue at about $1,500 a day during repairs and said county staff preferred to "do this once and do it right so we don't have any lingering problems." Trustees approved the motion to award the contract by voice vote.
The recommendation was made and approved during a Public Building Authority session that followed the county commissioners' regular meeting. Staff did not provide a start date in the public transcript. The board approved related claims and contracts at the same meeting.
What happens next: staff recommended awarding the contract to Impact Contractors and the trustees approved the motion; staff will coordinate construction staging and closures and proceed with contract execution and oversight.
