Residents used the public-comment period at the June 11 meeting to press the council for safety and maintenance fixes, and council members gave updates on a string of local recreation and infrastructure projects.
Public comments: Jayne Davis said small children on the bike path near Hodges Canyon Road are in danger and urged traffic-calming measures; Mayor Pat Argyle suggested a warning sign and Council Member Brad Davis proposed a speed bump. Dan Kurek cautioned that a jake-brake ordinance would be difficult on a hill for safety reasons. Nadine Sprouse later told the council that the sidewalk between 350 South and the park is overgrown and impassable in places. The council agreed to follow up with Public Works.
Council updates and projects: Council members reported that the library expansion is sheetrocked and nearing painting and ceiling installation; a community member is donating materials for a mountain-bike pump track and the town will acknowledge contributors; a new playground at Heritage Park is complete and the town hopes the splashpad will be ready by Raspberry Days (the July 4 target was uncertain). Council Member Ken Hansen suggested a skate park and discussed seeking grant or Tourism, Recreation and Trails (TRT) funding, and Council Member Brad Davis said he has located potential grant opportunities.
Executive session and next procedural steps: The council met in executive session to discuss a possible land acquisition and returned to open session; minutes of the executive session are kept separately. The meeting concluded with approval of payment vouchers and adjournment at 7:51 p.m.
