Housing authority reports rent recertifications, AC cleanings and summer events

Chair Pete Brown called the East Hampton Housing Authority meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. on June 18 in the Bellwood Court community room and on Zoom. Executive Director David Schumacher delivered a monthly operations update covering maintenance, resident services and upcoming events.

Schumacher told the board that rent recertifications are complete and that the new rents will go into effect on July 1. He said J DeMelia inspections were completed "with no major issues," and that maintenance staff member Ed installed new tenant parking signs at Bellwood. Schumacher said the authority is waiting for a firm quote to repair a sidewalk at Chatham near Building A.

Schumacher also reported that Laura has collected documentation for the farmers’ market card program and that "if the resident qualified the money is on the card." He said air-conditioning cleanings are scheduled for June 23, with eight units serviced per day, and that the authority’s first summer picnics are scheduled for Bellwood on July 1 and Chatham on July 3. Schumacher noted staff member Marge will not be present in June but is expected back in July.

During public comment, resident Marilyn Gerzabek of 10 Bellwood asked when Bellwood’s AC units would be cleaned. Katrina Harzman (C‑7) thanked the board and the director "for everything they do for the residents," and Freddie Winstanley of 30 Bellwood thanked Ed for the condition of her apartment when she moved in.

The board received financial statements for review and was told there are no outstanding bills. The meeting record shows the board later entered a closed executive session from 10:43 a.m. to 11:03 a.m. and adjourned at 11:04 a.m.

The authority’s next scheduled governance action is the board’s annual meeting, set for June 30, and routine operational items cited by staff — new rents effective July 1 and the June 23 AC cleanings — are the immediate follow-ups from this session.
