The Argo Community High School District 217 Board of Education on June 16 accepted an independent auditor’s report, approved insurance renewals and routine finance items, authorized intergovernmental agreements for School Resource Officers, and received informational updates on energy contracts and food-service operations.
Nick Cavaliere of Baker Tilly presented the independent auditor’s report and said the district received a 3.8 out of 4.0 rating. He described the audit as generally positive, noting healthy key indicators but recommending monthly balancing of activity funds and review of payroll controls after the auditors identified an unapproved stipend and one overpayment. The board unanimously approved the auditor’s report (Motion #2026‑207).
On finance items the board unanimously approved the renewal of property, casualty, auto, umbrella liability, cyber, and catastrophic student accident insurance (Motion #2026‑206), accounts payable/IMPREST (Motion #2026‑208), and the monthly finance and payroll report (Motion #2026‑209). The board also approved a one‑year agreement with Illuminate, Inc. for financial consulting services for SY 2026–2027 (Motion #2026‑200).
The board unanimously approved intergovernmental agreements engaging School Resource Officers with the Village of Summit (Motion #2026‑202) and the Village of Bedford Park (Motion #2026‑203) for the 2026–2027 school year.
Informational items included work with World Kinect Energy to seek competitive pricing and lock new electricity and natural gas contracts; Smartest Energy will replace Dynegy/Vistra Energy as the district’s electricity supplier beginning July 1, 2026, while the district will continue with NRG under another contract. The board also received Arbor/Whitson’s 2026–2027 cafeteria business plan reporting FY2025 and FY2026 meal counts (FY2025 lunches 188,170; breakfasts 52,757; FY2026 lunches 189,891; breakfasts 64,954), successful breakfast-cart implementation and promotional events, and bilingual cafeteria staff led by manager Julissa.
The meeting also authorized the destruction of verbatim closed‑session recordings older than 36 months for specified months (Motion #2026‑205, 6–1).
