Bayshore Gardens pursues county grant for LED marquee; county rep offers swim-assistance info

Trustees at the April 22 Bayshore Gardens Park & Recreation District meeting agreed to pursue a county neighborhood grant for an LED communication marquee and heard community-event and swim-program updates.
Trustee Skip Wilhoit presented a neighborhood grant proposal for up to $10,000 to fund an LED communications marquee; the board agreed to submit the application to the county. The proposal is intended to improve district-to-resident communications; no grant award was reported at the meeting.
Chairman Cori Howell and Trustee Skip Wilhoit each submitted ideas for updating the district’s logo for future consideration.
District Office Manager Gia Cruz reported that Lillian Sparrow is now certified as a Water Safety Instructor and a Lifeguard Instructor, allowing the district to offer swim lessons, pool aerobics and in-house lifeguard and First Aid/CPR training. Makayla Lindecamp from Manatee County Neighborhood Services attended and outlined upcoming county events; Howell said Lindecamp would send information on grants or vouchers to help families who cannot afford swimming lessons and forward materials to the district office.
Resident S. Denson announced a Hurricane Expo scheduled for Monday, May 26, to be held in the district hall. Trustees said they would post notices in the Bayshore Banner to alert residents to work sessions and events.
The board did not record a formal vote on logo selection or on award of any grant; the LED marquee proposal will proceed with an application to the county.
