Wilson County commissioners endorse back-to-school clothing drive for about 250 students

Lou Rosenberg, president and director of the Wilson Area Children’s Foundation, asked the Wilson County Commissioners Court to adopt a resolution recognizing the foundation’s back-to-school clothing program and to help publicize the Aug. 8 event at the Walmart in Floresville.
Rosenberg said the foundation has run the program for roughly 12 years in its current form and that it typically serves about 250 school‑age children identified by district counselors for free or reduced-price lunch. “This year, we’re trying to raise it from $50 per student to $75 per student,” Rosenberg said, adding the program runs on the state’s tax‑free Saturday and moves families through the store by appointment and voucher card.
The court read the resolution aloud and approved it by voice vote. The resolution encourages community support and requests publicity so businesses and donors will recognize and back the foundation’s effort. Lillian Hernandez, introduced during Rosenberg’s remarks as a new foundation member, passed sample cards used at the event and noted the group will pursue Walmart foundation funding as well as local donations.
The commission accepted the proclamation recognizing the Wilson Area Children’s Foundation’s back-to-school clothing program and invited the foundation to take photos with the court after the vote. The resolution lists the event time as 8:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at the Walmart on Highway 181 in Floresville.
