Council amends water/wastewater budget to accept insurance proceeds, discusses small IT purchase

Town Manager (S3) told the council that the town received $87,906.62 in insurance proceeds for storm-related water damages after depreciation and applicable deductibles. "We got $87,906.62," S3 said, explaining that FEMA reconciliation may increase or reduce the final federal share and that the town was taking a conservative approach by placing the insurance proceeds in a dedicated account for water/wastewater operations.
S3 also asked the council to authorize spending $2,700 — funded from rent paid by Chief Cares for leased space — to replace two seven-year-old staff computers used by the town clerk/tax collector and the finance officer. Council members discussed whether to buy Windows PCs (preferred for compatibility) rather than Macs and agreed that the planned purchase was reasonable if funds were available in the office rent revenue account.
The council moved to approve the budget amendment to add the insurance proceeds to fund 30 (water/wastewater operations) and signaled support to proceed with the small IT purchase pending finance confirmation.
