Board adopts Eureka Math for grades 6–8, pledges teacher training and PLC follow-up

The Gravette School District board voted to adopt the Eureka Math curriculum for grades 6–8 under a three‑year quote of $55,443.53, with funding identified from student declining‑growth funds. Board discussion focused on ensuring sufficient materials and professional development so teachers and students can make the transition.

During the discussion, board members asked whether the district was purchasing full curriculum packages or minimum material bundles and whether manipulatives and consumables were included. A board member asked specifically, "Are we making sure that we're getting all the materials offered and we're not, like, getting the minimum packages and having a teacher share?" Presenter (S6) said the itemized parts were included and the district planned to provide coaching and subs for teacher learning time.

Another participant who examined the program said the "pros definitely outweigh the cons," noting rigorous alignment with standards, support resources and gains seen in Arkansas. That speaker also cautioned that the program can carry a heavy content load and initially overwhelm students and teachers; both presenters and board members emphasized a phased implementation and training plan to mitigate those risks.

Board members directed staff to return to the July 22 PLC training/work session with plans to break down essential standards and implementation steps, and to develop a professional development and coaching schedule. "We need to give our teachers the best tools," the presenter said, adding that the district would pilot the rollout and focus on vertical alignment from 5th to 6th grade and across middle grades.

Next steps: district curriculum staff will finalize the purchase order, confirm package components (materials, manipulatives, PD), and schedule teacher training tied to the July 22 work session. The board requested a follow‑up update on the implementation timeline and resource needs.
