The Denton council accepted as sufficient a petition for voluntary annexation of a residential development referred to as Old Farm Place and scheduled the petition for public hearing, staff said.
Staff member (S8) presented a preliminary map and said the petition covers an initial portion of the development that would be annexed to provide town sewer, police, fire and trash service; the presentation described nearly 98 houses in the proposed area and noted roughly 38 acres would be within town limits after annexation of the subdivided portion.
S8 said the annexation process requires county approval before the town takes final action and that developers must secure DOT approvals for drive entrance design and contact DEQ for wastewater considerations. “So tonight, all you’re doing is saying that their petition is sufficient, and you’re setting the public hearing,” S8 said.
Council members asked about access routes, proximity to the high school and potential sequencing if sewer approval or septic constraints change the number of units. The council did not take a final annexation vote; it accepted the petition as meeting the filing requirements and set the matter for the next hearing where the public may comment.
