Ocean Pines board approves change to ARC permit-review order

John, the chair, opened the Ocean Pines meeting and led routine business before the board took up changes to the Architectural Review Committee guidelines.

Jeff, who read the motion on behalf of Elaine Brady, said the change would alter the order in which permits are considered by ARC. "The motion is to approve the changes to the ARC guidelines," he said, explaining that the current sequence (letters from secondary homeowners associations first, county permits before Ocean Pines permits) would be revised so that permits from Ocean Pines are reviewed before county permits. He added that "all permits issued by the county must be given to Ocean Pines in order to proceed with your your project." Jeff said the aim is to "help ensure permanent work will be within the required guidelines for Ocean Pines."

After a motion and second, Steve noted this was the second reading and clarified the revision "does not in any way change the plans that Elaine had previously announced for the town hall meeting" and that the board intends to address permit issues "step by step." The board then voted on the motion; the chair called the question and the motion passed with all members present voting in favor.

The approved change requires that, to include updated requirements in the ARC permit process, any permits issued by the county must be provided to Ocean Pines before ARC will proceed with permit review.
