Olivette approves participation in Clayton-led fire authority feasibility study

The OIvette City Council voted unanimously to approve Bill 3062, allowing the city to participate in a Clayton-led feasibility study that would evaluate whether a multi-jurisdiction fire authority is feasible.
The city manager told the council that Brentwood elected not to participate but that six to seven cities are expected to take part in the study. "It allows the city of Olivette to participate in the study. It does not obligate the city of Olivette to then participate in the authority should that move forward," the city manager said.
Council member Solomanov moved to approve the ordinance; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll call vote. Council member Jurgale, Council member Solomanov, Chairman Pro Tem Sean Hellman and Mayor Lewis voted yes; Council member Clark was absent. The clerk announced that Bill 3062 becomes Ordinance 28‑32.
The ordinance authorizes Olivette to join the intergovernmental agreement only for the purpose of participating in the feasibility study. If the study recommends forming a regional authority, any further steps to join or implement a shared service would require separate approvals by the council.
The council did not set a timeline in the meeting for study completion; the item will return to the council with study findings or proposals if participating jurisdictions pursue an authority.
