During the public comment period at the May 12 Town Board meeting, residents raised several community concerns and sought follow-up information from town officials.
Ernie Tirado of Lakeside Road asked for the outcome of the EX203 police reform Zoom meetings and whether the resident panel and survey remain available online. Supervisor Gilbert J. Piaquadio replied that approximately five Zoom meetings were held with Deputy Supervisor Manley and Police Chief Campbell, that a retired FBI expert reviewed police procedures and found few items needing revision, and that the town produced a plan the supervisor described as satisfactory to the governor and attorney general. Piaquadio also explained how to locate the Zoom recordings and survey on the town website.
Tirado additionally asked whether the website can be translated into Spanish. Piaquadio said he agreed it was a good idea and would look into it. Stephen Hunter, who said he works with a website developer, offered to help with translation and asked about the uptick in storage-unit developments, saying he would like to see more family-oriented amenities such as a movie theater.
When Tirado later asked whether political candidates may march in the Memorial Day parade, Piaquadio clarified that the parade is hosted by the town but run by the American Legion and that, unless a person is an elected official, participants are not permitted to march as a political delegation because the event is meant to honor veterans.
The board did not take immediate formal action on the website translation or storage-unit concerns; Supervisor Piaquadio indicated staff would look into website translation and reiterated how residents can provide input to the town’s Comprehensive Plan update via the online comment form.
