The Tamworth Board of Firewards discussed steps to address radio interference that has affected the department’s repeater system, Chairman Jim Bowles said at the Feb. 5 meeting.
Capt. D. Costello reported that JT Harmon will change both the incoming and outgoing PL tones on the Great Hill repeater to try to stop interference coming from the Henniker Highway Department and that Ossipee Mountain Electronics has been asked to service the repeater. "JT Harmon is going to change both the incoming and outgoing PL’s in the repeater on Great Hill to try and stop the interference from Henniker Highway Dept," Costello said.
M. Baumann said he contacted the Federal Communications Commission and that the FCC will follow up to determine whether any license violations could be causing the interference. "The FCC will be following up to determine if there are any license violations that could be causing the radio interference issue," Baumann said.
Costello also reported progress reprogramming the department’s radios with a new code plug: all trucks except Engine 3 have been updated and some portables are complete. The board did not set a firm schedule for professional servicing of the repeater or an estimated replacement cost; Ossipee Mountain Electronics has been requested to service the unit but no completion date was provided.
The board agreed to continue troubleshooting with equipment vendors and to await the FCC’s follow-up to determine whether regulatory action or further technical fixes are necessary.
