The Wausau School District Board of Education on July 13 approved adoption of the Wisconsin academic standards for the 2026–27 school year and also approved annual membership renewals for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association for Wausau East, Wausau West and WAVE.
Board members were told at the June committee meeting that Dr. Katie Colwell and a staff member identified as Michelle provided the annual notice of the district’s adoption of the state standards, which outline knowledge and skill expectations across content areas and guide teachers’ lesson planning and instructional practices. The chair said the committee reviewed second-semester AGR school data and continuous improvement priorities in June before presenting the adoption for board approval.
The board moved to approve the Wisconsin Academic Standards as presented for 2026–27; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The meeting record shows the board then approved WIAA renewals for the three schools with no additional questions.
The approvals are procedural steps commonly taken in summer to ready curriculum and athletics for the coming school year. Board members emphasized the district’s focus on student learning and continuous improvement when discussing the committee updates.
