Amanda McDonough, president and chair of the Board Policy Committee, called the Oxford Community Schools committee to order at 11:30 a.m. on May 8 in the Board of Education office and led a brief roll call of members and staff.
The committee approved the minutes of the April 10, 2025 Policy Committee meeting after a motion by M. Aldred and a second from S. Gibson; the motion carried with three ayes. The minutes were recorded as approved.
During the policy-review portion of the meeting, the committee decided to adjust language in the district FOIA procedures manual under policy 3501 (Freedom of Information Act procedures) and directed staff to prepare revised wording for future consideration. The committee also recommended policy 5301.01, addressing compulsory attendance, absenteeism and truancy, for first reading.
Committee members reviewed policy 4201 (Employee Ethics and Standards) and elected to make no changes. The group recommended two school-safety items — policy 5714.01 (Threat Assessment) and 5714.02 (School Safety Information) — for first reading, indicating agreement to advance those policies to the next procedural step.
The committee discussed policy 2203 (Authority to Establish Curriculum) and requested an update on the Sex Education Advisory Board at a future committee meeting to inform any potential policy revisions.
No unscheduled public comment was recorded. The meeting adjourned at 1:13 p.m.; the minutes were later signed by Amanda McDonough on June 5, 2025.
Next steps: policies recommended for first reading will be scheduled for the committee's and board's standard review process; the committee requested a follow-up report on the Sex Education Advisory Board at a subsequent meeting.
