Trustees approve 2026 budget draft and consider $6,000 furnace warrant article

The Cook Memorial Library Board of Trustees voted on Feb. 9, 2026 to accept the library’s 2026 budget draft version 6 for submission to the town. Kristel Faris moved to accept the draft; Courtney Spaulding-Mayer seconded and the motion carried.
The trustees said the current draft is about $17,000 lower than the version the Selectboard reviewed the prior week. The meeting record attributes part of the reduction to personnel changes following a staff resignation, along with other unspecified adjustments to spending lines. The trustees noted that final budget figures submitted for town appropriation will reflect the town’s review and any placement of items in the town’s Capital Improvements plan.
Trustees also discussed a proposed warrant article for replacement of a basement furnace, estimated at $6,000. Members noted the furnace expense will likely be reflected in the town Capital Improvements budget where appropriate rather than solely in the library’s operating warrant.
The trustees reminded the public that the library’s budget hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the library; paper copies of the budget will be available at the hearing. The meeting record does not include a roll-call tally for the votes taken at the Feb. 9 meeting.
