Superintendent Rod Morrison opened the district reports section at the Jan. 15, 2025 meeting, reviewing superintendent goals, recent engagements, upcoming events, legislative developments and staff "shout-outs." He then invited department and school leaders to summarize local activities and program updates.
Kasaan schools and program leads reported a range of items including OVK involvement in school activities, greenhouse projects, cultural programming and partnerships with the U.S. Forest Service (reported by Mike Congdon). Other school representatives shared updates about personnel, academics, student projects, facilities and community engagement. Astrid Richard-Cook reported on state and federal grant submissions and the district's upcoming ESEA audit.
District technology and grants staff reported a PowerSchool cybersecurity breach. Everett Cook summarized the cybersecurity incident and referenced related grant purchases and an upcoming RUS/DLT grant RFP. During the public comment period, Shaine Nixon addressed the PowerSchool incident, grant matters and proposed revisions to high school graduation requirements.
Student Representative Teagen Taylor reported on student requests about school lunch, academic testing (ASVAB), events and a planned Juneau legislative trip in February.
