Southeast Island School District board approves personnel items, course, security purchases and door contract

The board voted 5-0 to adopt the consent agenda, which included approval of meeting minutes, the February 2025 financial report, FY2025 classified hires (Dixie Somerfield and Jason Wakefield), an extra-duty contract for Julia Trischman, FY2026 administrator contracts for William Shaine (Nixon), Robbin Perkins and Astrid Richard-Cook, and a slate of FY2026 teacher contracts.

During new business, board member Benjamin Blair moved to approve a Memorandum of Agreement with SERRC for management and operation of the Youth Brain Injury Program; the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved an elective course description for "Construction and Building Skills Level 2." The board authorized the superintendent or designee to purchase door lock systems from Daanish Technologies for $116,842.00 and camera systems from Daanish Technologies for $82,495. It also authorized the superintendent to award a School Door Replacement contract to Cressy Door Company for $262,188.09; all motions passed 5-0.
The motions to approve and to authorize purchases were made by board members on the record and carried without dissent, meaning the district can proceed with procurement and implementation steps outlined in staff recommendation materials.
What’s next: Several board policies (BP 1321, BP 1322, BP 1325 and BP 1325.1) were moved to second reading for future consideration. The board set its next regular meeting for March 26, 2025, at Thorne Bay School.
