Superintendent highlights student service projects, honors Fire Safety poster winners

Superintendent Rebecca Jenkins summarized districtwide October activities at the Oct. 27, 2025 Board of Education meeting, highlighting learning, service and arts events across elementary and middle schools.

Jenkins described an Institute Day focused on belonging and inclusion, hands-on programs at Highland Middle School (sewing and food and nutrition), and classroom activities at Butterfield emphasizing measurement and peer mentoring through the school's Buddy program. She said the Copeland Manor community organized a Tower Build — stacking boxes of hot cocoa and oatmeal — that were donated to Fill A Heart 4 Kids to support families in need. Jenkins also noted Adler Park’s 'Connection Bracelets' and Rockland’s new CKLA unit and emphasis on student voice; Principal Steve Feldman was mentioned in the meeting record as encouraging leadership opportunities at Rockland.

The board honored the following students for trophy-winning entries in the Libertyville Fire Department's 52nd annual Fire Safety Poster Week contest (theme: "Charge into Fire Safety"): Eva V. and Joey S. (Copeland Manor); Mokshitaa H. (Rockland); and Isabelle C. (Adler Park). The board also recognized community members, staff, and first responders credited with saving a gentleman who suffered a serious medical emergency near Copeland Manor earlier in the school year.

No public presentations were made from the floor during the meeting. The board recessed briefly after the recognition to meet with honorees before resuming regular business.
