Local business owner proposes monthly 'Lazy Days' to boost downtown traffic

Dan Stahl, owner of Farmhouse Vintage Treasures, presented a proposal to host a monthly downtown event he calls 'Lazy Days,' suggesting an inaugural date of Sept. 21, 2024. He described a family-oriented event that would include sidewalk sales from downtown merchants, live music at the Fainting Goat, food trucks, vendors, bounce houses and a possible local farmers market, asking the board to allow a temporary road closure on Market Street between Parrish and Main and use of the former Tastee Freez parking lot.
Town Manager Kimberly Pickett clarified that the proposal does not request town funding and that staff would need the Board's input on allowing the road closure and parking-lot use. Mayor Pro Tem Casandra Stack expressed support, saying she "really liked the concept; a lot of towns are doing things like this." Pickett said staff would discuss internally and bring back feedback at the next meeting.
No formal approval for the event or road closure was recorded; staff will report back to the board with recommendations.
