Board to consider Healthy Food Certification and Chartwells renewal; CPI cap of 3.9% noted

Tanja Gouveia told the subcommittee that Healthy Food Certification and National School Lunch Program steps will require two motions from the full Board at its May meeting: (1) confirmation the district will comply with Connecticut Nutrition Standard Guidelines; and (2) approval to allow the sale of non‑compliant foods and beverages to students only outside the regular school day or on weekends. Gouveia said approved minutes and motions must be submitted to the State before the end of June to complete certification.
Gouveia also reported that 2026–27 will be the final year of the current Chartwells food‑service contract and that the fourth renewal with the State is due by the end of June. She said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for 2026–27 is 3.9%, which is the maximum allowable increase for Chartwells' administrative and management fees; those fees represent Chartwells' revenue and do not reflect profit on food sales. A meeting with Chartwells is expected to be scheduled in the coming weeks to finalize renewal terms.
The subcommittee did not take a final vote on either certification motions or contract renewal at this meeting; those actions are expected at the May Board meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:49 p.m.
