The Benson Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Feb. 24 to award a $227,361 roofing contract for the town’s L‑Shaped Building to NKS Contracting LLC. Assistant Town Manager Calla Godwin told the board staff received four bids and recommended NKS’s proposal.
Godwin said the bid covered the initial roof replacement, but town staff identified asbestos in the existing roofing material and expect a forthcoming contract amendment to pay for full removal and asbestos remediation. The minutes do not state the expected additional cost for remediation.
Commissioner Will Chandler made the motion to approve the contract; the board voted 5-0. The decision follows staff review of multiple bids and concludes the procurement step; the town will return to the board if and when the remediation amendment is ready for approval.
Town staff did not provide further schedule or funding-source details in the minutes. The board’s action authorizes work to proceed under the awarded contract amount; any additional expense tied to asbestos remediation will require amendment and separate documentation.
