Benson board selects Nance Field for new pickleball courts in 4-2 vote

The Benson Board of Commissioners voted to place new pickleball courts at Nance Field after staff presented two location options.
Community Events Coordinator Tim Messer told the board the courts could be built at either Vyas Park or Nance Park and asked for the board's recommendation. Messer noted an advantage of Nance is preinstalled lighting, which would reduce costs. "One of the pros of Nance is lights are already installed," Messer said.
Aaron Anderson, the town's athletic program supervisor, said Nance is easily accessible and noted the nearby gym could serve as an indoor alternative if rain affects play. "Nance is easily accessible and if it rains, the gym was only two blocks over," Anderson said.
Commissioner Maxine Holley moved to place the courts at Nance Field. The motion passed 4-2; Commissioners Will Chandler and William Neighbors voted against the motion.
The board did not specify a construction timeline or funding source at the meeting; staff will proceed with implementation steps consistent with the board's decision.
