Temple ZBA votes to allow five alternates, discusses staggered terms

James Stein, a member of the Temple Zoning Board of Adjustment, proposed revising the board’s Rules of Procedure to reflect that the ZBA may appoint up to five alternate members rather than the previously listed three and to remove language that said the Selectboard appoints alternates.
Allan Pickman read an email from Christine Robideaux about the ability for alternates to be elected during town meeting. Ken Caisse said the ZBA can make a motion to accept the alternates and Pickman moved accordingly. The board discussed staggering alternate terms; Sliviak said the current alternates had been given three-year terms that expire in 2029 and Gary Scholl suggested rotating term expirations if several alternates are appointed at once.
Stein’s motion to accept the revised Rules of Procedure passed unanimously. The board instructed staff to update the procedure text to reflect the change and to publish the revised rules.
